After moving from Arkansas to Idaho, one single mom faced the holidays with no family nearby and a budget that couldn’t cover it all. Then she learned her family would be adopted for Christmas through Giraffe Laugh.
Today, she is a proud member of our team. In her own words, she shares what that generosity meant and why it has stayed with her long after the presents were opened. Read her story below.
Hello everyone. I am writing this to you as a proud team member of Giraffe Laugh. More than anything, I wanted to share my story tonight to express my profound thankfulness and appreciation for the incredible blessings this organization and its supporters bring to families like mine.
When I moved here, I found myself in a season of deep uncertainty. I packed up our lives and moved across the country from Arkansas to Idaho. A single mom, completely on my own in a brand-new state, with no safety net or family nearby.
As the holidays and my children’s birthdays approached, that uncertainty turned into a heavy, drowning anxiety. Idaho winters are brutal, and I was staring at a budget where the math just didn’t work. I was facing choices no mother should ever have to make: do I pay our utility bills, do I buy the heavy winter gear we need to stay warm, or do I put presents under the tree?
Then, I received the incredible blessing of being told our family would be adopted for Christmas.
The moment I heard those words, a wave of relief washed over me that I will never forget. In a single conversation, the agonizing burden was lifted. I didn’t have to choose between our survival and my children’s happiness. Because of this program, I could finally breathe.
On Christmas morning, watching my children open their presents, our home wasn’t filled with the stress of our transition, it was filled with pure joy, warmth, and laughter.
